Local Awards Scheme Honours City’s Business Talent
The winners of the 9th annual Brighton & Hove Business Awards (BAHBAs) were announced on the Brighton Palace Pier last night.
The big winner on the night was Ambiental who took home the awards for Best Environmental Industry Company and Business Beyond The City.
The Kitchen Store claimed the title of Fastest Growing Business and was also highly commended for Best independent Retailer.
Other big winners on the night included The Young People’s Centre who took home Greatest Contribution to the Community and The Treatment Rooms which won the title of Best Customer Service. The Sealife Centre was named Best Place to Visit whilst Paddle Round the Pier took the Best Event in the City.
But the biggest surprise of the night was for the chair of the Awards, Tony Mernagh, who retires next year. Awards organisers presented him with ‘the big red book’ engraved with “This is Your Brighton Life” on the cover and the title of Outstanding Brightonian.
Caraline Brown, awards organiser commented: “Tony has held many senior positions across the city yet has still found time to chair the BAHBAs every year since their inception.
“Respected by all, including political parties and all sectors of business, he has had the strength and determination to work with seven Leaders of the Council and six Chief Executives – no mean feat in our ever changing local political environment.
“Tony’s many years of service will continue to attract investors that will shape the City’s future economic success, providing jobs and homes for future generations. He leaves a legacy which we can all build on – to make Brighton & Hove a great place to work and to do business.
“Not much gets past Tony, but his fellow judges did manage to keep this award from him until tonight.”
Ten leading Brighton Businesses, three major titles, four trade organisations and one of the most iconic and fun venues in the city came together to create a competition which acknowledged the diversity and uniqueness of our City and celebrated those companies, organisations and individuals who really build the Brighton and Hove brand.
2014 sponsors included Allied Irish Bank, Brighton & Hove Jobs.com, Cardens Accountants, Qualifa, Graves Jenkins, Classic Consulting, Cluttons, Martin Searle Solicitors, Close Brothers Invoice Finance and MD Hub. The Argus, Absolute Brighton and Juice 107.2FM are media partners.
The BAHBAs are supported by the Chamber of Commerce, Brighton & Hove City Council, the Brighton Business Curry Club and B&H Tourism Alliance.
